Opportunities Doncaster is a new and exciting organisation, co-created by Doncaster Chamber and Doncaster Council, in Partnership with the Opportunity Area Programme, to bring business and education together. The new professional organisation will launch itself at a special event on Tuesday 16 July.
Business people, education leaders, teachers, careers leads and parents are invited to the event to find out more about how ‘Opportunities Doncaster’ and partner organisations will support business and education working together to raise the career aspirations of young people and prepare their future workforce.
Keynote speakers and panellists from Opportunities Doncaster, and partner organisations including Doncaster Chamber, Doncaster Council, Start Doncaster and the Careers and Enterprise Company, will present their plans to work with business and education to raise the careers aspirations of young people and prepare the future workforce.
“Working with business, education and partners, Opportunities Doncaster wants to give young people an insight into what an exciting career in Doncaster can look like,” says Andy Hibbitt, Skills & Education Director, Doncaster Chamber, and business lead for Opportunities Doncaster.
“We will help our business partners, who hope to be future employers of local pupils, to showcase some of the fantastic roles they can provide and inspire their future workforce.
“This launch event will give interested parties the first chance to come and talk to us and other like-minded people about the many opportunities and benefits of getting involved.”
The launch event will also showcase each of the partner organisations who are working to improve careers opportunities across the borough. Start Doncaster is a new online careers platform that will improve the digital connectivity between the region’s schools, colleges, universities and employers. Attendees will get to view and navigate the new careers platform during the evening.
There will also be information about the innovative work for young people led by the Doncaster ‘Careers Hub’ and opportunities available through the Council’s ‘Advance’ Programme helping adults to thrive in their chosen career.
Says Damian Allen, Director of People (DCS/DASS), Doncaster Council:
“Establishing positive partnerships between business and education in Doncaster is a personal ambition of mine. It is a theme that features regularly in the One Doncaster report and will be vital in creating the education landscape we want to see in the future.
“So I’m thrilled to see Opportunities Doncaster being launched. The potential benefits of this greater collaboration between Doncaster educators and employers are huge and I’m confident that Opportunities Doncaster can realise that potential.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to network over drinks and canapes, question the panellists, speak with exhibitors, and gain further information on how they get involved with Opportunities Doncaster.
This must-attend event is taking place at the Hilton Garden Inn, Doncaster Racecourse, Leger Way, DN2 6BB, from 17:30 to 20:00.
